*Says winning the war against poverty will reduce insecurity by 50% in Nigeria

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Dr Betta Edu, has requested the assistance of the Nigerian Airforce in delivering humanitarian, relief materials and palliatives to hard-to-reach areas across the country. During her visit to the Airforce Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, the Minister emphasized the critical role the Airforce would play in the success of her Ministry's efforts to get aid to every part of Nigeria. She also requested assistance in securing humanitarian workers and relief materials, as well as evacuating Nigerians from areas under threat, both within and outside the country. The Minister expressed gratitude for the Air Force's recent support in evacuating students from Sudan.

Dr Edu who identified poverty as a major contributor to insecurity, which often leads to humanitarian crises, further stated that winning the war against poverty would result in about 50% reduction in insecurity in Nigeria.

"We have a significant number of individuals who are either internally displaced or refugees and require humanitarian assistance. Some of them are situated in areas that are difficult to access due to security concerns. As a result, your support is crucial in enabling us to reach them and provide them with necessary aid, including palliative care."

"We rely on your assistance in terms of intelligence and security within your mandate to facilitate our work and achieve success. Additionally, the Ministry intends to incorporate the families of deceased servicemen into our poverty alleviation scheme. Consequently, I would request the deployment of Air Force personnel to serve as desk officers in my ministry, to facilitate proper liaison."

The Minister emphasized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's commitment to reducing the number of Nigerians affected by humanitarian crises to the barest minimum. In the coming weeks, the Ministry plans to visit various parts of Nigeria to provide humanitarian aid.

Dr Edu congratulated Air Marshal Hassan on his appointment and expressed condolences for the loss of some of his men in active duty in Niger state.

"The Nigerian Air Force and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation will working together to address critical humanitarian challenges facing the country. The presence of both organizations highlights our shared commitment to the well-being of fellow citizens during their most difficult times. The challenges facing Nigeria in the humanitarian sphere are complex and multifaceted, including crises triggered by conflicts, natural disasters, and displacement. Responding to these crises effectively requires a coordinated and unified approach, pooling the resources and expertise of various agencies and departments. The Nigerian Airforce is committed to providing the support needed to address these challenges," Air Marshal Hassan expressed this commitment to the Minister, stating that we will do better and give the minister all the support needed. This joint effort aims to alleviate poverty and improve the lives of those affected by various crises.

FG, TUC AGREE ON TWO WEEKS TO RESOLVE SOME LABOUR ISSUES

The Federal Government and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) have agreed to give government two weeks to address some of the grievances of the Congress.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Solomon Lalong, disclosed this in Abuja at the end of a meeting with the leadership of Trade Union Congress, led by its President, Comrade Festus Osifo.

The meeting was convened by the Minister to resolve TUC’s and Nigeria Labour Congress’ differences with government and to avert the pending warning strike by organised labour.
According to Lalong, the issues for which a two-week timeline was set for their resolution include wage award for federal civil servants to cushion the effect of rising poverty among them, and tax exemption for a certain level of workers, both in the public and private sectors.

The other issues on the two-week timeline are to put structures in place to ensure effective implementation of the palliatives declared by the Federal Government for the states and the FCT, and to set out the modalities for accessing the N70 billion proposed for the funding of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), among others.

The Minister declared that after the two weeks, the meeting would reconvene for further discussions, and added that the parties understood that some of the issues were urgent, while some would require a long span of time to resolve.

According to Lalong, the parties also agreed that there would be no strike within this peace period of two weeks “while we are doing deliberations and also working towards realising some of these objectives.”

The President of the TUC, Comrade Festus Osifo, stated that the two-week timeline was reasonable, as it would give government ample time to address the issues.

He disclosed that at the commencement of the meeting, the leadership of TUC was pushing for a one-week timeline for the resolution of issues in dispute, but had to reconsider after weighing governments constraints, stating, “We also need to be pragmatic.”

Osifo stated that their demands, as contained in a communique earlier issued by the Congress, include resolving the impasse between Lagos State Government and Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), increasing the amount provided for palliative as the sum of N5billion allocated per state is inadequate to ameliorate the sufferings of Nigerians.

Earlier, in a press conference, the Minister had implored Nigeria Labour Congress to suspend its planned two-day warning strike scheduled for 5th and 6th September, as such action would be detrimental to the gains already recorded by government in securing a greater future for Nigerian workers and citizens.

He urged the leadership of NLC to give the government some time to address the issues raised holistically.

The Minister reassured Nigerian workers that government would never take them for granted nor fail to appreciate their support and understanding.

  • ANYTIME YOU SNEEZE, PLS SNEEZE OUT, DONT HOLD THE SNEEZE IN.
Tunji a handsome young guy had just had his morning dose of a packet of cigarette so he boarded the bus going from Ibadan to Lagos. Lucky. for him his seat partner was a pretty girl, so he thought to use his Yoruba demon prowess to win his potential new catch. Everything was going on fine, dude had collected number. She was a final year Unilag student banking and finance.

Tunji was having a little cough and catarrh though, he thought it was embarrassing and lucky he hadn't felt the urge through out the conversation until he felt like sneezing.First sneeze and he held it and instead 'sneezed in'.The second sneeze, the same thing. At that second sneeze he heard a very loud sound like a thunder sound and immediately had a severe headache. Turns to his new catch and asks 'Did you hear that sound? she replies 'nope'. Tunji thinks it's his imagination and journey continues.

The bus is in Lagos now, and Tunji all of a sudden is unconscious. They thought he was sleeping though, it was when everyone alighted and he didn't, they raised alarm, rushed him to the nearest hospital, where he was referred. They quickly did a CT scan and discovered he had bleeding in his brain. A blood vessel had ruptured. He slipped in a coma days later and died on the fourth day.

Sneezes are very powerful, they could travel at a speed of 200 mph, that could rupture a blood vessel in your brain, perforate your ear drum or even cause air to be trapped in your chest between your lungs. Stop doing fine boy or fine girl, when you feel like sneezing, SNEEZE OUT. Turn the other way and sneeze out, don't try to sneeze in, it's dangerous.

*Don't ignore this vital information please!*

PRESIDENT TINUBU ARRIVES INDIA AND HEADS STRAIGHT INTO TOP-LEVEL INVESTMENT MEETING WITH HINDUJA CHAIRMAN AFTER 15 HOUR JOURNEY

Undeterred by jetlag from a long intercontinental journey, President Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday, arrived in New Delhi to the immediate embrace of Mr. Gopichand Hinduja, the Chairman and CEO of the Hinduja Group of Companies, a conglomerate with a total asset portfolio exceeding $100 billion U.S. Dollars.

The Indian Industrialist was received by the President within 90 minutes of the President’s arrival in India for a meeting, which began around 8:00pm local time.

Accompanied to the meeting by Nigeria’s Ministers of Finance, Trade & Industry, and Foreign Affairs, the smiling Nigerian leader made it clear to his first visitor that he is in India with one focus: attracting investments to Nigeria with lucrative opportunities for investors, but most essentially, jobs for Nigerians and new revenue opportunities for Nigeria’s federal and sub-national governments.

“We are here for business. I am here to personally assure our friends and investors that there is no bottleneck that I will not break. Nigeria will become one of the most conducive places on earth to make good profits and create lasting jobs. With my support, there is nothing standing in your way of enjoying the unrivaled opportunities presented by our massive market and the ingenious & hardworking nature of the Nigerian people. We are open for business,” the President firmly assured.

The Hinduja Group Chairman told the President that he was a living witness to his landmark effort as Governor of Lagos in turning a coastal erosion and water encroachment crisis into a massive free trade zone where industry now thrives. This, he said, was partially responsible for his excitement to partner with Nigeria’s new President to create win-win prosperity for Nigeria’s talented population.

“We believe in you as a leader who has done this before. You know what the challenges are. You know how to fix them. We are going to make investments into the billions of dollars under your leadership, because we see you are already addressing the systemic problems. I am ready now to sign an MoU and to begin execution. You tell me who to liase with and we will get to work immediately, particularly with respect to bus and automobile manufacturing in Nigeria, amongst other areas,” the Industrialist enthusiastically stated.

The President did not wait to respond.

“Ministers of Trade and Finance, the two of you will follow this up immediately and you will draw up the terms to the satisfaction of both parties. If there are any issues at all which require my intervention, they must be brought to my attention immediately.”

After the President assigned the task of concluding the agreement to the two Ministers in collaboration with with Hinduja Group Executives, who were present in the room, the industrialist could not hide his excitement.

“I have had paperwork stalled in Nigerian bureaucracy for over one year, especially in FCT, but I knew that you would be purpose driven in this endeavour and God will help you to turn Nigeria’s rich promise into rich reality for all of its citizens,” the Indian Billionaire concluded.

The President concluded that his task of making Nigeria great can only be achieved through teamwork and not in isolation, noting that when his investors are happy, Nigerians will rejoice by partaking in an inclusive economy where hard work is rewarded and where excellence becomes the reputation of the nation.

    A WOMAN'S HIPPOCAMPUS

A new study of one woman's brain finds that women's brains may change slightly every month, in sync with their menstrual cycles.

Women experience monthly hormone fluctuations that influence the switching that takes place between their infertile and fertile days, and in a small study of just one woman whose brain was scanned every few days throughout two menstrual cycles, the researchers found that these estrogen-level changes also affect the hippocampus the area of the brain that is central to memories, mood, and emotions.

The researchers looked at 30 women and measured estrogen levels in their blood. The women also underwent MRI scans of their brains, which the researchers used to measure the volume of the different regions of each woman's brain.

The study showed that as the estrogen levels rose, the hippocampus increased slightly in volume. The researchers' measurements showed that both the grey and white matter in the brain increased as estrogen levels rose, causing the hippocampus to increase in volume.
