The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and representative of the Bende Federal Constituency, Rt Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has provided financial assistance to support indigent and vulnerable individuals within the Bende community.

The initiative introduced by the Deputy Speaker, known as the "Family Support Grant for Rural Dwellers," is a financial assistance program designed to alleviate the hardships faced by vulnerable populations throughout the 13 wards in the constituency.

The family support grant aimed at rural residents was launched on Friday in Akanu Item, providing assistance to over 1,200 individuals who benefited from the substantial funds allocated for this initiative.

Speaking to newsmen on the grant distribution, Mr. Emma Trumps Eke, Director General, Benjamin Kalu Foundation, said the generosity by the Deputy Speaker is scheduled to run on a monthly basis and phases.

"My principal said he's going to run this over a period of time, so on a monthly basis, a different set of people selected by the traditional rulers, president generals of these communities, political leaders, other stakeholders and of course our structure, Hon Benjamin Kalu Movement will also have input." Eke said

Speaking on the selection process, Eke said 80 people were chosen from every federal ward of the constituency and it was done in a way to boost the philanthropic effort of the Deputy Speaker.

He revealed that some legislative aides from the constituency contributed to Benjamin Kalu family support grant for rural dwellers in the little way they can from their monthly salary.

"In view of this current economic situation, the Deputy Speaker came out with this noble idea of family support grant for rural dwellers. For people living in the rural areas, the grant can help you start petty trading and the multiplier effect, if properly harnessed, will put food on their table. There are legislative aides who said out of what they are earning, they are also giving back. We're looking at about 1,200 persons to receive this grant today," Eke added.

Also speaking, the state woman leader of Benjamin Kalu Foundation, Lady Philomena Ikwuegu told newsmen that the kind gesture means a lot to the beneficiaries especially in these hard times.

"One of them was so excited because he has not received such in these hard times," Lady Philomena said.

The beneficiaries expressed their profound gratitude to the Deputy Speaker for his benevolence.

One of the beneficiaries, Chief Ihendu John Ogba said; "I want to thank him, let him continue, by the grace of God, the next time, he is going to be the senator of this senatorial zone. One good turn deserves another".

Another beneficiary, Mrs. Comfort Chukwu thanked the Deputy Speaker, saying that she plans to use her share to invest in her farm land for increased cultivation.

On her part, Mrs Mba Ijeoma Precious, a petty trader from Apanu Item expressed joy after receiving her share and said it will boost her petty trade.

"I'm very excited to receive this amount of money, as a petty trader, I will use this money to support my business. This money is even given without minding your political affiliation. May God bless Hon Benjamin Kalu and give him the strength to do more," she said

Golden Gate Bridge

The Golden Gate uses the largest bridge cables ever made, long enough to encircle the world more than three times at the equator.

The Golden Gate Bridge's builders introduced many innovations, but perhaps the most impressive was the precise and efficient technique they used to construct the massive cables.

The bridge's designers carefully calculated the graceful dip of the suspension cables between the two towers to carry the needed weight. The cables had to be flexible enough to bend up to 27 feet laterally, in the Gate's formidable winds, and strong enough to support the structure of the bridge. The planned cables would be so long and strong that they would need to be fabricated in place.

The well-known engineering company of John Roebling and Sons oversaw the cable construction. Roebling had built many of the world's longest bridges -- including the Brooklyn Bridge, 52 years earlier. The firm had devised the most efficient strength-to-rigidity ratio for cables. It had also developed a technique of spinning cables on-site. The Roebling crew's work on the Golden Gate Bridge continued a tradition of innovation.

Cable spinning began in October 1935. To create the cables, Roebling developed a method called parallel wire construction. The innovative technique enabled a cable of any length and thickness to be formed by binding together thin wires. It promised to give engineers the freedom to build a bridge of infinite length.

Hundreds of wires, each roughly the diameter of a pencil, were bound together into strands. Hydraulic jacks then bundled and compressed 61 strands to make a cable. Each of the two main cables is just over three feet in diameter, 7,659 feet long and contains 27,572 parallel wires. The Golden Gate uses the largest bridge cables ever made -- long enough to encircle the world more than three times at the equator.

The FCCPC has set a one-month deadline for traders to reduce the prices of goods throughout Nigeria.

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has announced a one-month grace period for traders and market participants engaged in price exploitation, encouraging them to lower their prices on goods.

Mr. Tunji Bello, the newly appointed Executive Vice Chairman of the FCCPC, shared this information during a one-day stakeholders’ engagement focused on exploitative pricing, which took place on Thursday in Abuja.

Bello indicated that the Commission plans to initiate enforcement actions as soon as the moratorium period concludes.

He said, ”Under Section 155, violators whether individuals or corporate entities face severe penalties including substantial fines and imprisonment if found guilty by the court. 

”This is intended to deter all parties involved in such illicit activities. 

”However, our approach today is not punitive. I, therefore, call on all stakeholders to embrace the spirit of patriotism and cooperation. 

”It is in this spirit that we are giving a moratorium of one month before the Commission will start firm enforcement,”

“We have heard and you have genuine issues and the government has the responsibility to address the problems but generally, let us talk to ourselves too.

”There are also gang-ups to exploit consumers by traders,”

The Governor of Kano State has decided to reinstate the dethroned Emir of Gaya, and has also appointed new Emirs for Karaye and Rano.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from Kano State has given his approval for the appointment of the second class emirs for the Gaya, Karaye, and Rano Emirates.

In a statement issued to the press in Kano, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Director General of Media and Publicity to the governor, revealed this information.

Alhaji Muhammad Maharaz Karaye, previously serving as the District Head of Rogo, has been appointed as the Emir of Karaye.

Alhaji Muhammad Isa Umar has been named as the Emir of Rano.
Before his current position, Umar served as the district head of Bunkure.

The dethroned emir of Gaya, Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir Gaya, was reinstated as emir of Gaya.

Abdulkadir stood out from other deposed emirs as he gracefully accepted his fate and declared his readiness to serve in any role following the announcement of his removal from power.

The announcement informed that all appointments will take effect immediately.
