  • Chief J. S. Okutepa SAN Speaks....
    04/05/2024

Sometimes, I feel so sorry for political jobbers and sycophants who have nothing doing to earn a living other than to allow themselves to be used as instrument of misinformation and propaganda.I have read so many unintelligent accounts of my person from social media, including write up of bolt or some Uber drivers.

Some of these charlatans have given me names that are far from my name and my person. Some don't even know me and the principles I stand for. Some just agree to give me bad names so that they can feed. I thank God my person is feeding them. Some of these jobbers and beggars see my fight for electoral justice in Kogi state as an ethnic agenda.
But these political buffoons and charlatans have short and myopic memories of the antecedents of my legal fight for electoral and democratic justice in Kogi State.

Soon after the late political sage, Prince Abubakar Audu died in 2015 or so, and Hon James Abiodun Faleke was denied the right to become Governor of Kogi State by dint of some political abracadabra put in place by his political party, which preferred and produced Yahaya Bello to inherit the votes that Prince Abubakar Audu and Hon James Abiodun Faleke worked very hard to earned, I was one of the leading lawyers that fought for electoral justice for Hon James Abiodun Faleke. That fight nearly cost me my life. Hon James Abiodun Faleke is an Okun man. He is not an Igala man. I stood for him because justice was denied him.

Again when Yahaya Bello wanted to disgrace Hon Justice Nasir Ajanah, CJ of Kogi State as he then was, from office, may God rest the soul of his lordship, I was one of the lawyers that stood for his Lordship in his travails with Yahaya Bello as then Governor.

Hon Justice Ajanah was not an Igala man. No, he was an Ebira man from Okene. I stood for him because he was being oppressed for doing what a good judicial officer should do. I was not a tribal bigot, then. These buffoons and charlatans giving me bad names to be hung now did not know that I was an Igala man of royal blood.

Again, when Senator Ohaire and Rt. Hon Abdullahi Bello were denied political justice, I was the lead lawyer who stood for these illustrious sons of Ebira land. Justice, they needed, and I stood for them for justice. For those who run their mouths and think that I started today, see the following cases to wit: Appeal NO: CA/A/38/M/2016, Rt. Hon. Abdullahi Bello & Anor vs. Hon. Yusuf Ahmed Tijani Damisa & Ors. Appeal NO: SC/168/2016, Rt. Hon. Abdullahi Bello & Anor vs. Hon. Yusuf Ahmed Tijani Damisa & Ors, Appeal NO: CA/A/37/M/2016, Sen. Mohammed Abdulsalami Ohiare & Anor vs. Ogembe Salau Ahmed & Ors, Appeal NO: SC. 169/2016, Sen. Mohammed Abdulsalami Ohiare & Anor vs. Ogembe Salau Ahmed & Ors. and Hon. James Abiodun Faleke vs. INEC & Anor (2016) 18 NWLR (Pt.1543) 61.

My fight to do what is right in Kogi State and Nigeria at large is not of tribal origin or political colourations. No, it is not. I am not a member of political parties. I do not belong to the party. My party is justice. I have stood for people who were and are oppressed politically.

As a lawyer, I stand for justice. Justice, I will fight for all the days of my life. No one can intimidate me to compromise the fight for justice.I am not scared of fighting for a just and egalitarian society where justice holds sways. You can not stop a leper from attending the funeral of his father. Those who are feeding free from the crumbles that fall from the table of oppressors and preferred to engage in sycophantic praise to earn a living can go ahead. But note that I serve God of vengeance. I am more than ever committed to justice in our electoral jurisprudence. That is why I have consistently stood for those who have been robbed of electoral victories by those who have been strangulating democracy in Nigeria. I just like to let those who think I can be intimidated to give up fighting for justice to know that they are already losers.

The Katsina State Government through its Enterprise Development Agency ( KASEDA) has signed two Memorandums of Understanding, MoUs, with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency, SMEDAN, to the tune of N250 million on boosting the capacity and growth of small businesses in Katsina State.

The second MoU was for KASEDA to Partner with of the federal government-owned Industrial Development Centre, IDC in Katsina to develop and boost the SME sector in the state for a period of three years.

The event took place on Thursday at the Corporate Headquarters of SMEDAN in Abuja, with Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, the Director General of SMEDAN, Mr. Charles Odii, and the Director General of KASEDA Hajiya Aisha Aminu presiding over the auspicious MoU affair.

The Minister of State for Youth, Mr. Ayodele Olawande, and Dr. Wale Fasanya, the immediate-past DG of SMEDAN; together with some top Katsina State Government functionaries also graced the event.

While speaking, Governor Radda noted that Medium and Small Scale Enterprises, MSMEs, worldwide, okay a critical role in changing the fortunes of many nations.

"Any leader who aspires to transform Nigeria, must not ignore the MSME sector, which contributes about 50 percent to the country's nominal GDP, while also providing jobs to about 70 percent of citizens," he said.

He however, expressed displeasure with the fact that SMEDAN, in recent years, has not succeeded in increasing the number of SMEs it is boosting their capacities. "SMEDAN should no longer be talking about empowering just hundreds of thousands of SMES at this time. We should be talking about millions," he said.

Governor Radda advised the SMEDAN management to work towards expanding the scope and numbers of Nigerian small businesses who receive their institutional support, particularly monetary funding.

As part of tackling poverty, hunger and youth restiveness in Katsina, he said his administration has approved the sum of N3.4bn to enhance the development of SMEs in the state. Radda also disclosed that two other IDC will soon be established at Daura and Funtua zones to make it three, besides the current one which KASEDA will take our its ownership.

"As part of our commitment to grow Katsina's economy, the state government will collaborate with the 34 local governments we have to fund our SMEs with about N3.4 billion.

"Each local government is expected to provide 100 million counterpart funds. We shall thereafter identify 10 to 20 enterprises in each local government, that will get our funding support," he said.

Governor Radda further revealed that his administration will soon embark on building wood and furniture clusters, among other vocational trades development hubs, similar to the ones managed by SMEDAN at its corporate headquarters.

"Our Katsina State Enterprise Development Agency, KASEDA, is currently in the process of selecting small businesses with potential for growth and employing people, in Katsina, to get our support. We plan to give them credits with zero interest rate.

"Equally, in order to boost the capacity of our KASEDA, we shall soon dispatch some of their staff to SMEDAN for them to learn how you are driving Nigeria's SMEs sector. But again, some SMEDAN staff will also be invited to Katsina and mentor the staff of KASEDA," he said.

Responding, The DG SMEDAN Mr Charles Odii, expressed delight with the move by the Katsina State Government to partner SMEDAN in advancing the frontiers of Katsina SME sector. "This MoU we just signed will help to curb social unrest in Katsina, while making sure SMEs in the state have easy access to finance and business market," he said.

It gazes with its gleaming eyes at the shining moon, extending its agile paws towards it, borrowing every ounce of strength to reach it, as if it seeks to embrace a glimpse of the secrets of the majestic night and sky. In its nimble and balanced movements, the deep desire to connect with the world of dreams and mystery manifests itself, embodied in this shining moon.

  • HADI Initiatives Propels Dangiwa For Top Ministerial Role

The Hope Arewa Development Initiative (HADI) said it has uncovered hidden gems in the outgoing Secretary to Katsina State Government, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, now a ministerial nominee, noting that his journey so far, has always paved way for extraordinary visions of progress and development.

The Chairman HADI's Initiative, Mohammed Aliyu disclosed this in a press statement issued to newsmen in Katsina

While noting that "President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration stands at the crossroads of history with a golden opportunity to harness Nigeria's true potential, Aliyu said "HADI Initiative strongly believes that among the esteemed ministerial nominees, one name shines bright—Arch Ahmed Dagiwa, the Secretary to Katsina State Government. We are hopeful that President Tinubu, as a visionary leader, will recognize this extraordinary talent and assign Dangiwa the role he so richly deserves. Together, they can unlock Nigeria's boundless potential and shape a brighter future for all."

Describing the former FMBN Boss as a champion of change, a great and true political blazer, the Chairman of HADI Initiative said:

"Dangiwa's unwavering commitment to public service goes beyond his tenure as Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria. During the APC Gubernatorial primaries, where he contested against Governor Radda but lost, his dedication and unshakable spirit of sportsmanship was unfolded when he accepted to be Radda's Campaign Director-General. He left no stone unturned in the pursuit of progress which is now à testament of his resolute belief in transforming Nigeria for the better.

"Also, when he was called upon to serve as Secretary to the Government of Katsina State, Dangiwa, exemplifying the hallmark of a true leader, gracefully embraced the role, serving with an unwavering commitment to the betterment of the people and the nation.

"In his two-month stint as the Secretary to the Government of Katsina State (SGS), together with Governor Mallam Dikko Umaru Radda, they laid the cornerstone for the future agenda of the new government and they embarked on a mission to rebuild and reshape the state's destiny, propelling it towards a brighter tomorrow.

"With divine inspiration guiding his path, Dangiwa displayed unwavering passion, hope, and foresight, which ultimately culminated in achieving remarkable feats for the people."

According to Aliyu, while Dangiwa was at the helm of affairs of FMBN, he built a brighter future and left a legacy of empowerment and a flourishing cooperative housing sector for Nigerians.

"Dangiwa's tenure as the Managing Director of FMBN witnessed a groundbreaking revolution in the housing sector with the National Housing Funds (NHF) Collection reaching an unparalleled milestone of N500 billion from the previous N232.8 billion over 25 years. Under his watch also, NHF Refunds surged to an impressive N50 billion from N10.8 billion, another testament to Dangiwa's exceptional leadership.

"Still, under his watch, the Mortgage Bank disbursed an astounding N163 billion in just five years in Housing Loans, surpassing the cumulative N152 billiion over 25 years. This remarkable feat empowered countless Nigerians to realize their dreams of homeownership, making houses accessible and affordable for all.

"Dangiwa's influence extended beyond loans and funds; he introduced innovative Rent To Own Mortgage Products with zero percent equity contribution and reduced interest rates at seven percent to facilitate home ownership. He empowered contributors with individual construction loans, enabling them to build their dream homes to their taste.

"Under Dangiwa's mastermind, the cooperative housing sector thrived, leading to the creation of 5,000 Housing units for 160 corporate bodies across Nigeria. His commitment to inclusive growth and development knows no bounds," Aliyu said.

"Under Dangiwa's mastermind, the cooperative housing sector thrived, leading to the creation of 5,000 Housing units for 160 corporate bodies across Nigeria. His commitment to inclusive growth and development knows no bounds," Aliyu said.
