• OMOH! IT IS 9 YEARS AGO ALREADY🥹

November 22, 2015, feels just like yesterday. I was just a young junior secondary school student in Akwanga, full of curiosity and a budding interest in politics, both at the national level and Kogi State

The 2015 Kogi State gubernatorial election was a showdown between Captain Idris Wada and Prince Abubakar Audu ... I still vividly remember catching a glimpse of Prince Audu in 2015 during the APC/AlMakura Gubernatorial Mega Rally in Central Pilot school Akwanga. Even though I couldn’t get close to him because of the heavy security around the VIP canopy, I was confident it was him It was a surreal moment for me, a young boy far from home but already captivated by the politics of Kogi

Back then, APC was still a relatively new party, but I had already fallen in love with its ideology. As the November 2015 Kogi election drew closer, the political tension in the air was palpable. Social media was buzzing with complaints about the incumbent, Governor Idris Wada, and there was so much hope that Audu would bring the change the people desperately needed

I closely followed the APC primaries on August 30, 2015. When the results came in, Audu secured 1,009 votes while Yahaya Bello, a surprising new contender, scored 703.... The numbers were impressive, but Audu’s victory felt inevitable... I believed he was the right man for the job, and from my little corner in Akwanga, I prayed for his success

Fast forward to election day, November 21, 2015. I watched it live on Channels TV as Prince Audu stepped out to cast his vote, dressed elegantly in his signature attire. Excitement filled the air – APC was on the verge of making history in Kogi State But, oh, the struggle of following updates! NEPA’s light was as unreliable as ever, and I had to rely on my trusty Nokia Express Music to stay connected , flipping between Facebook and 2go for live updates... Here, I don't know Twitter yet

Then came November 22, 2015, the day that began with so much hope but ended in heartbreak. As collation results trickled in, APC was leading, and victory seemed assured . But suddenly, the unthinkable happened. News broke that Prince Abubakar Audu had passed away🥹 "Oh are you sure? This must be fake news,” I thought. Just yesterday, we watched him vote on TV. It couldn’t be true! But as the hours passed, the devastating confirmation came... The man who was on the verge of making history was no more

That Sunday turned black for Kogi State and Nigeria as a whole. The dream was shattered, and the loss was immeasurable

Today, nine years later, we still remember Adoja Prince Abubakar Audu for his service, his leadership, and the hope he gave to Kogi people.

May his soul continue to rest in perfect peace. Ameen

  • NCC Sets September 14, 2024, as Final Deadline for Compliance with NIN-SIM Linkage.

In statement released by Reuben Muoka, NCC Director, Public Affairs.

He stated, “The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is pleased to announce significant progress in the Federal Government’s 2020 policy to link all Subscriber Identification Modules (SIMs) to National Identity Numbers (NINs). To date, over 153 million SIMs have been successfully linked to a NIN, reflecting an impressive compliance rate of 96 per cent, a substantial increase from 69.7 per cent in January 2024.

“As we approach the final phase of this critical process, the NCC seeks the continued cooperation of all Nigerians to achieve 100 per cent compliance. The complete linkage of all SIM cards to NINs is essential for enhancing the trust and security of our digital economy. By verifying all mobile users, this policy strengthens confidence in digital transactions, reduces the risk of fraud and cybercrime, and supports greater participation in e-commerce, digital banking, and mobile money services. This, in turn, promotes financial inclusion and drives economic growth.

“Through collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), the NCC has uncovered alarming cases where individuals possessed an unusually high number of SIM cards—some exceeding 100,000. The Commission also remains committed to working with security agencies and other stakeholders to crack down on the sale of pre-registered SIMs, thereby safeguarding national security and ensuring the integrity of mobile numbers in Nigeria.

“To ensure full compliance with the NIN-SIM linkage policy, the NCC has directed all Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to complete the mandatory verification and linkage of SIMs to NINs by September 14, 2024.

“Effective September 15, 2024, the Commission expects that no SIM operating in Nigeria will be without a valid NIN.

“We urge all members of the public who have not yet completed their NIN-SIM linkage or who have faced issues due to verification mismatches to visit their service providers promptly to update their details before the deadline. Alternatively, the approved self-service portals are available for this purpose.

“The NCC also reminds the public that the sale and purchase of pre-registered SIMs are criminal offences punishable by imprisonment and fines. We encourage citizens to report any such activities to the Commission via our toll-free line (622) or through our social media platforms.

“The Commission thanks the general public for its continued cooperation as we work together to strengthen Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.”

  • STAND FIRM IN YOUR VISION: A MESSAGE TO MY FELLOW COMRADES.
By Mohammed Naziru Suleiman (Nazy Inyass)

    Dear Young Comrades,

In the wake of our recent graduation from universities, polytechnics, and other higher institutions across Kogi State and beyond, many of us are at a crossroads, trying to find our footing in the challenging terrain of our society. Some among us have chosen to join the ruling party, driven by the hope of securing opportunities or for reasons best known to them. However, the recent Supreme Court ruling has caused a stir, leading some to second-guess their decisions, deleting social media posts, and rethinking their affiliations. This confusion highlights a deeper issue which means many of us do not have a clear understanding of what we truly want.

It’s crucial to realize that life after graduation is not just about aligning ourselves with those in power. It’s about having a vision for our future and consistently working towards it, no matter the circumstances. Joining a party or being known by the ruling class should never be the ultimate goal. Instead, we must ask ourselves: WHAT DO I WANT TO ACHIEVE? WHAT IMPACT DO I WANT TO MAKE? HOW DO I WANT TO BE REMEMBERED?

I think this advice from me will be of help in our struggle to make it politically and beyond:

We should Know What we Want: Let's spend time reflecting on our values, passions, and long-term goals. This self-awareness is the foundation of a fulfilling and impactful life. Once we know what we want, everything else becomes clearer.

Let's Stand By Our Vision: When we've identified our goals, stand firm in our pursuit of them. The path may be challenging, and we may face pressure to conform to others' expectations, but remember, TRUE SUCCESS COMES FROM STAYING TRUE TO YOURSELF.

UNDERSTAND THE POWER OF CONSISTENCY: I read it somewhere that Consistency is key to achieving long-term success. It’s not about quick wins or temporary recognition but about steadily working towards our vision every day. The wise men said "Those who succeed in life are those who keep pushing forward, even when it’s difficult."

Value Long-Term Vision Over Short-Term Gains: It’s tempting to seek immediate rewards by aligning with those in power, but remember that what the wise men said "True greatness comes from building something that lasts." Let's focus on developing skills, knowledge, and relationships that will serve us in the long run, not just in the moment.

In conclusion, my dear comrades, let us not be swayed by the fleeting allure of power or recognition. Instead, let us commit to a journey of self-discovery, integrity, and unwavering determination. The future of Kogi State and our country at large depends on young leaders like us who are not afraid to dream big, stand firm, and work tirelessly to turn those dreams into reality.

Let’s strive to be the change we want to see, not just by who we associate with, but by the values we uphold and the vision we pursue.

    Yours in struggle,
    Nazy Inyass
