At the Saudi summit, President Tinubu called for an immediate end of the Israeli aggression in Gaza and emphasized the importance of realizing a two-state solution.

In his address to the significant Arab-Islamic Summit, which was called to discuss the ongoing situation in the Middle East, President Tinubu conveyed his serious worries regarding the humanitarian conditions in Gaza.

He said, “The conflict in Palestine has persisted for far too long, inflicting immeasurable suffering on countless lives.

''As representatives of nations that value justice, dignity, and the sanctity of human life, we have a moral obligation to collectively bring about an immediate end to this conflict.

''It is not enough to issue empty condemnations. The world must work towards an end to Israeli aggression in Gaza, which has persisted for far too long.

"No political aim, no military strategy, and no security concern should come at the expense of so many innocent lives.

''In a rules-based international order, States have the right of self-defence. But self defence must take proportionality into account, in line with global legal, diplomatic - and moral - frameworks.

''An entire civilian population, their dreams and futures, cannot be dismissed as collateral.

''It is not just a diplomatic article of faith; it is a vision grounded in the principles of equality and mutual recognition.

''Achieving this vision requires a commitment to dialogue and respect for history. We all know this conflict did not begin on October 7 in 2023. It can only be resolved through principled compromise, based on appreciation of the proper context.

''This conflict, in the cradle of history, is so visceral that the ripples of division spread far and quickly. The corrosive impact of the images of endless violence, repeated on a billion smart phones around the world is huge. We need to find new pathways to peace, without delay.

''Our own experiences, domestically and regionally, have taught us that identity politics are no substitute for respecting the nuances of diversity,'' he said.

''the path to reconciliation may be fraught with challenges, but it is through honest conversation that we can foster understanding.

''The international community has the opportunity to bring to bear new thinking on this most relentless challenge.

''It is our duty to engage in this dialogue with sincerity and resolve, recognising the complexities that each side faces.''

During his two-day operational visit to the region, Defense Minister Mohammed Badaru praised the dedication of the military personnel in protecting Kaduna State, especially along the Kaduna/Birnin Gwari road.

He said, “In the last six months, we haven’t recorded any cases of kidnappings or civilian ambushes, aside from a few engagements with bandits,” He commended the troops for their unwavering commitment and resilience, which have contributed to significant enhancements in security within Birnin Gwari.

The minister highlighted that the purpose of his visit was to uplift the spirits of the troops, evaluate their operational capabilities, and reinforce ongoing strategic collaboration to support peace and stability.

In a significant development in the fight against terrorism, personnel from the Joint Task Force Northwest OPHD have successfully neutralized the infamous bandit leader Kachallah Buzu, in along with several of his militants in Zamfara state.

The operation that occurred on the night of September 12 in Mayanchi village was conducted as a result of a strategic ambush set by the military, based on intelligence regarding the movements of the terrorists.

According to intelligence sources shared with Zagazola Makama, the ambush resulted in the elimination of several bandits, including their leader, Buzu.

Alongside the considerable fatalities suffered by the insurgents, the forces captured 30 motorcycles and a substantial stockpile of arms, significantly hindering the group's ability to operate effectively.

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Musa addressed reporters following the Security Chiefs' meeting at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja. He stated that the days of the infamous bandit Bello Turji are numbered.

He assured the nation that the military would apprehend him shortly.

The meeting was attended by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, along with the leaders of various paramilitary organizations.

“On the issue of Turji, like I said, it is just a deranged individual that feels power. Bt I can bet you, that it is just a matter of time.

“We are going to get him and I can assure you within the shortest possible time, we are going to address that issue. That is why we all must come together to work with members of the Armed Forces and security agencies to deny them the ability to move freely within our communities.”

“Please, do not give them any support. Do not give them information on the movement of troops because this is what is really happening. Most of the area where this thing is continuing is because we have informants within the communities.

“I have always reminded Nigerians that asymmetric warfare is something that should not be allowed to commence because once it is done, it is a very difficult operation. You are dealing with non-state actors that are not wearing uniform. You don’t know them, but they know you.

“Within the communities, if you don’t have the support of the community, it makes it extremely very difficult,”

The Chief of Defence Staff and other military heads have been directed to relocate to Sokoto by Minister of State Defense, the headquarters for the General Officer Commanding that oversees Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, and Kebbi states.

In the relocation is part of the Federal Government's focused initiative to eliminate the threats of banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism in the North West region,

According to statement Matawalle, the Chief of Defence Staff, and other military leaders, there will be a significant operation launched in Sokoto aimed at eliminating bandits in the North West.

The statement reads: “The Honourable Minister of State for Defence H.E Dr Bello Muhammed Matawalle MON has expressed his sadness over the activities of terrorists and Bandits terrorizing Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina and kebbi States and its environs.

“Consequent to this the Honourable Minister of State has directed the Chief of Defence Staff and other military chiefs to move to Sokoto which is the Headquarters of the GOC Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina and kebbi states with him as part of an intensified effort by the Federal Government to rid the North West of the menace of banditry, kidnapping and terrorism.

“This strategic move underscores the unwavering commitment of the government to restoring peace and security in the region. While in the North West, they will supervise operations and ensure that Bello Turji and his Bandits gang are flushed out.

“These criminal Bandits have been circulating videos of a Nigerian military Armoured vehicle that was stuck in a water-logged area and late in the night the officers were asked to withdraw to avoid being ambushed by bandits, later in the night the bandits went to the water-logged area, recording video of the Armoured vehicle that was stuck and celebrating it. This incident happened in Kwashabawa, Zurmi local government Area of Zamfara state. This is not acceptable as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR has been giving great support to the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

“The Federal Government is deeply concerned about the persistent threat posed by banditry and terrorism in the North West particularly. We are ready to deploy all necessary assets to ensure that these criminal elements are flushed out and peace is restored to our communities, Dr Matawalle stated. We must move against these terrorists to enable our people to move freely.

“The time is up for these bandits and terrorists as increased and consistent operations will weaken all their bases.
Matawalle hereby calls on the Armed forces of Nigeria to flush out the bandits and terrorists as his presence in the North West will ginger our armed forces.

“Matawalle further assured the people of Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara, kebbi states and the entire North West region that the security forces will not leave any stone unturned until they flush out the bandits.
I will be on the ground in the North West with the CDS and other military chiefs, leading our brave men and women in uniform.

“In addition, the Honourable Minister of State for Defence also called on the people of Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina and kebbi states to remain vigilant and cooperate with the Security forces and he reiterated the Federal Government's resolve to protect the lives and properties of all Nigerians, emphasizing that the security and well-being of the people remain the government's top priority.”

On Wednesday, Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence, announced that the Armed Forces of Nigeria needs an annual supply of 200 million rounds of ammunition to effectively carry out its operations and it will cost the government almost N600 Billion.

He mentioned that this expense incurred by the government amounted to no less than $2 for each round of ammunition.

The minister revealed this information while formalizing a memorandum of understanding among the Ministry of Defense, the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria, and the National Agency for Science and Engineering to set up an ammunition manufacturing facility in Nigeria.

“We shall look at it as our baby, not just for me, but for all of us. Of course, if today we are doing even 60 or 70% reductions of our military hardware and ammunition, how much the ministry or the military are spending every year?

“The requirement of just the military is about 200 million rounds of ammunition per annum. Just military. Put together, other paramilitaries, the police, we’re looking at about 350 million rounds of ammunition per annum”.
