  • THE 48 LAWS OF POWER.

A Book written by Robert Greene that offers a Series of Strategies for Obtaining and Maintaining Power in various situations. Here I leave you a summary of the 48 Laws:

    1.
Don't Outshine the Boss: Make your Superiors feel Superior. Don't expose your Talent too much or you might Trigger their Insecurity.

    2.
Don't Trust friends too much, use your Enemies: Friends Betray you more easily, but if you Manage to WIN an Enemy, they will be more Loyal.

    3.
Hide your Intentions: Keep People Off Balance so they can't anticipate your Actions.

    4.
Always say Less than Necessary: Silence Breeds Power, and Talking too much Reveals your Plans.

    5.
Protect your Reputation at all Costs: Reputation is the Cornerstone of Power.

    6.
Call Attention at all Costs: Be Visible to be Relevant.

    7.
Make others Work for you and Attribute it: Take Advantage of the Work and Effort of others to your Advantage.

    8.
Make others come to you: Don't Run after Others, make them Look for you.

    9.
Win with Actions, Never Arguments: Prove your Point through Actions, Not Words.

    10.
Avoid Losers and Unhappy: The Misfortune of others is Contagious; stay away from those who Bring you Down.

    11.
Make People Depend on you: If others Depend on you, you're in Control.

    12.
Disarm with Sincerity and Selective Generosity: Emotional Disarmament will give you an Edge.

    13.
When you ask for Help, Appeal to the Interests of Others: Appeal to what Benefits Others, not Gratitude or Compassion.

    14.
Introduce yourself as a Friend, act as a Spy: Learn to Extract Valuable Information from others without them Noticing.

    15.
Crush your Enemy Completely: Do not let your Enemy Recover, or he will seek Revenge.

    16.
Use Absence to Increase Respect: The Value of something Increases with Scarcity..

    17.
Keep Others in Suspense: Be Unpredictable, you will Confuse Others and Gain Power.

    18.
Do Not Isolate yourself: Loneliness Weakens you; Engage yourself in the Web of Influence.

    19.
Know Who You’re Dealing With: Choose Your Opponents And Partners Wisely.

    20.
Don't compromise with anyone: Maintain your Independence so you don't get Caught up in other People's Affairs.

    21.
Pretend to be a Fool to Catch the Sly: Let others think they have an Advantage over you.

    22.

Work on the hearts and minds of others: Conquer the spirit of people to control them.

    44.
Disarm and anger with mirror effect: Reflect the actions of others to destabilize them.

    45.
Preach the need for change, but never reform too much: Radical change can generate resistance.

    46.
Never look too perfect: Perfection breeds envy and haters.

    47.
Don't exceed your goal: When you achieve what you want, retire on time.

    48.
Be amorphous: Be adaptable, don't limit yourself to a rigid form.

These laws are designed to handle situations of power, but it's important to consider context and personal ethics when applying them.

  • AbdulSamad Rabiu, the Chairman of BUA Cement, stated yesterday that his company's intention to sell cement at N3,500 per bag last year was frustrated by the actions of cement dealers.

During the 8th Annual General Meeting held in Abuja, Rabiu highlighted that his company had sold over a million tons of cement to dealers at a price of N3,500 per bag, intending for these savings to be transferred to the end-users. However, he noted that the dealers were selling each bag of cement to consumers for prices ranging from N7,000 to N8,000.

He mentioned that the company needed to discontinue the policy since its involvement was not intended to support dealers financially.

He mentioned that BUA Cement was unable to regulate the dealers who, he claimed, were earning substantial profits due to the high margins, as the company lacks influence over pricing in the open market.

He said, “So, a lot of the dealers took advantage of that policy. Rather than pass the low prices to the customers, they were selling at even double the price we sold to them.

“Some were selling at N7, 000 and 8 000 per bag. They made a lot of money with the very high margin. I think we had sold more than a million tons at N3,500 before we realised what the dealers were doing.

“And then, because of the issues that Nigeria faced at the time about devaluation of the Naira last year and the removal of fuel subsidy, we could not continue that policy.

“We wanted that price to stay at that level but dealers refused. So, we could not sustain that simply because we did not want to be in a situation where we are subsidizing dealers.

“I’m referring to the point when the foreign exchange rate moved from about N600 to maybe N1,800 to the US Dollar. So, it became even more challenging and more difficult for us to actually sustain that price policy.”

  • Wike to Protesters: We are open to engaging in dialogue.

On Thursday, August 1, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), urged those demonstrating against President Bola Tinubu’s administration to engage in constructive dialogue.

Wike expressed that the government is open to listening and is prepared to guide them on various governance matters they might not have been aware of.

He said: “Let me take this opportunity to commend the people, the youths of Abuja for not being violent. We have said severally that it is better to dialogue with the government and keep the peace. He who makes peace will at the end of the day enjoy the dividends of peace. I still want to talk to our people that we are still ready to sit down and dialogue with them and let them know things that they may not know because information is power. I commend the protesters in Abuja who have refused to be violent.”

  • WHY IS FUEL STORED IN THE WINGS OF THE AIRCRAFT

Fuel exclusively stored in the fuselage reduces aircraft performance, crash safety, and practicality. The FAA and EASA have regulations for fuel storage, but additional factors ultimately determine where fuel is stored within aircraft designs.
Fuel stored in the wing is generally safer in crash events than fuel stored near the passenger cabin. Even for crash events where the plane doesn’t catch on fire, fuel is best kept off and away from passengers. Fire kept away from the cabin (in the wings) gives passengers time to escape to safety.

Surprisingly, where fuel is stored within an aircraft can drastically effect the structural weight of the aircraft. This is due to a structural effect called span loading.
Imagine yourself walking onto a steadily thinning sheet of ice on a lake. Your steps start to crack the ice.

Quick, lay down flat and spread your weight out before you fall through. The thin ice can support your weight as long as you keep your weight spread out.
In this silly example, the ice thickness represents the thickness of structural aluminium or carbon fibre in a wing. The more evenly distributed the weight of the fuel, engines, components, and payload is across the wing, the thinner the “ice” – the aluminium in the wing can be to support the same weight.

Less aluminium equals less structural weight – resulting in lower cost, better efficiency, and higher aircraft performance. Fuel stored in the wing helps accomplish that.
Long range aircraft, like airliners, carry a large portion of their total weight as fuel – over 12%. Most of the fuel weight is burned up in flight. For huge airliners, that can be hundreds of thousands of pounds of fuel burned in one flight.

Aircraft simultaneously need their Center of Gravity (CG) tightly controlled and to be near and slightly ahead of the aerodynamic centre of the airplane. The CG is typically located near the wing. Slight movements in the CG – inches – have drastic impacts on aircraft stability and control. As a plane burns its fuel during flight, the CG needs to stay within a small range – the entire time.

Fuel stored in the wings is perfectly suited to keep the CG within limits as the weight of the plane reduces by tons.

Where do those checked bags go? Fuel in the fuselage limits how much baggage, cargo, cabin, and internal volume is available. Fuel is the perfect candidate to be put in the wings. It’s a liquid – which occupies odd geometries and narrow passages with ease. Fuel stored in the wings expands the amount of volume open for baggage as well as for passengers.

Fuel stored in the wings enables better safety, efficiency, performance, and affordability. With so many benefits to fuel storage in the wings, it would be irresponsible to not consider it.
