  • Ibrahim Manga, the interim national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has stated that Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers, declined the opportunity to take charge of the political structure in the state.

He said, “The kind of opportunity given to Fubara by this party is the sort that you never imagine exists from any political party to any of its members, not a governor, not a president.

“It is the sort that you would not believe any member will enjoy, any person no matter his status, whether in former president.

“If I start talking now, I’ll dig out what we have been keeping in the cooler—the opportunities, the chances, the repeated chances given to this governor for him to take the leadership and take control of the structure.

“He was the first person that came to meet this NWC when they requested the replacement of the state’s chairman of the PDP.

“He said, ‘No, no, no’, nobody should call him that they should call ‘oga in Abuja; let oga give the person; anyone oga’ gives he is comfortable.

“This was the beginning of the whole of this problem. He was the one who said he cannot take decisions when Nyesom Wike is still alive.

“That was before the relationship went sour. So, at what point did you now stop recognising him as your boss, that you start taking all of those decisions?”

The spokesperson for the PDP suggested that Fubara and the governor of Bauchi, Bala Mohammed, could potentially face disciplinary measures due to purported anti-party conduct during the Rivers LGA elections.

He said, “That is a clear anti-party on the part of the governor, and we will wait for him with that himself.

“The governor that went to identify with him during the inauguration of the elected officials himself, the chairman of the governors’ forum, will be accused of anti-party.

“And this is why we are always careful to, you know, apply the sledgehammer on the heads of all of those persons accused of identifying with this thing called anti-party.

“Because you would soon realise that you have finished all the members of the party, and you are leaving nobody behind. Everybody has one action or the other that can constitute what is anti-party in the face of law.

“So, in the running party…because he went there, they were inaugurated, none of them was PDP local government chairman, none of the 21 of them.

“But the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum went there, gave his blessing for a sitting PDP governor to inaugurate the opposition party, and then they were all joyful and in a festive mood.

“How will you now say you are serving PDP with this action alone?”

  • The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria is preparing for discussions with Dangote Petroleum Refinery on Tuesday and Wednesday. The focus of these talks will be to finalize the agreements regarding the pricing and distribution of petrol from the refinery.

Chinedu Ukadike, the National Publicity Secretary of IPMAN, expressed that the association is looking forward to engaging in discussions with officials from the Dangote refinery, as it is eager to establish a positive business partnership with the refinery.

“We hope to sit down with Dangote maybe Tuesday or Wednesday and if they give us a template or price, we will move to Dangote. I want to reassure you that we have all it takes to off-take whatever Dangote will give to us. I don’t know why they are dragging their legs to discuss with marketers, maybe it is politics.

“The more we take action in terms of distribution lines, the price will come down, we are not afraid of this competition, we have organised ourselves and are ready to compete because this is the survival of the fittest.

“The issue of not having tank farms is gone because we have addressed the issue and now have farm tanks and anywhere Dangote says they will give us our products, we will distribute them to our marketers,” he said.

  • The DSS steps in to address the conflict between NNPCL and oil marketers.

The NNPC has granted approval for oil marketers, operating under the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, to begin lifting petrol from its depot at a reduced price.

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority has pledged to grant import and off-taker licenses to oil dealers. This will enable them to import fuel directly or acquire products directly from the Dangote Refinery, in accordance with the government's strategy to completely deregulate the oil sector.

During a recent peace meeting facilitated by Adeola Ajayi, the Director General of the Department of State Services, a new agreement has been established. Under this agreement, the national oil company has authorized the loading of products to settle the N15 billion debt owed to the marketers.

Chinedu Ukadike, the National Publicity Secretary of IPMAN said, “We were invited by the Director of the Department of State Services to resolve the ongoing issue between the association and the NNPCL.

“The meeting was on the non-compliance of selling PMS to IPMAN by Dangote Refinery and the problem we are having with NNPCL in terms of pricing. Based on this, the director of DSS invited us and brokered peace.

“Among what was agreed upon after a meditation process led by our National President Abubakar Maigandi, NNPCL has agreed to make some reductions and allow independent marketers to load out those tickets that amount to N15bn immediately.”

  • Encouraging chaos by Rotimi Amaechi is both reckless and unpatriotic. - APC

In statement released by Felix Morka,
    National Publicity Secretary APC.

The statement reads: “From the lavish comfort of his “proverbial glass house”, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, former Minister of Transport and Governor of Rivers state, in a recent interview, berated Nigerian youth for not protesting “high cost of living” in the country to his morbid satisfaction.

“Amaechi’s comments are insensitive, god-awful and unpatriotic, coming from one of Nigeria’s longest serving and highest ranking political freeloaders - a two-term Speaker of the Rivers state House of Assembly, a two-term Governor, and a two-term Minister of Transport.

“For almost all of his adult life, Amaechi, has been a leechy dependant on state resources, a voracious beneficiary of official patronage, and a leading participant in the generational devastation of our country’s economy. Attempting to hoodwink Nigerians into his web of false empathy and incitement to violence is hypocritical, provocative and dangerous.

“If those in power “steal money” as Amaechi mischievously alleged, how come he can’t afford “to buy diesel” barely two years after “stealing” for over 24 years in power as Speaker, Governor and Minister?

“The only real anger that Amaechi and his fellow tribesmen of naysayers of the likes of Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, must feel is that they are not in the saddle of government today. But that was a decision made by Nigeria’s ultimate political authority - the electorate. Nigerians are highly perceptive, discerning, demure, and mindful that economic discomforts associated with the administration’s inevitable reforms are transient and will pale into insignificance in comparison to the enduring transformative dividends which are already beginning to manifest. Nigerians will not be cajoled into taking back through street violence what they handed to the administration through the ballot, as Amaechi and his partisan tribesmen would wish.

“It is nauseating to think that these naysayer tribesmen who did absolutely nothing to improve the economy or living conditions for Nigerians while they were in office, now pontificate, endlessly, about what and how things should be done but didn’t and couldn’t do while in power.

“It’s as though they only regain their senses and discover their talents for governance when they are out of power. A tribe of naysayers, is what they are, who never see any good, only gloom, filled with bile and disdain for the determined strides of APC-administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to transform our country’s economy for the benefit of present and future generations of Nigerians.

One would expect Amaechi to keep busy trying to solve the crippling crisis in Rivers state that he once governed. Instead, he has chosen to stoke anarchy on a national scale. Weaponizing protest and exploiting citizen’s economic discomfort for selfish political objective, as these partisan tribesmen are doing, is irresponsible and decidedly unpatriotic.

“We urge Nigerians to dismiss the call to anarchy by Amaechi and his partisan tribesmen and to remain patient and continue to support President Tinubu’s bold effort to transform our country’s economy once and for all.”

  • A faction of the NWC of the PDP has announced the suspension of the acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, citing accusations of disloyalty to the party.

Earlier, a faction within the NWC that loyal to Damagum declared the suspension of Kamaldeen Ajibade, the National Legal Adviser, and Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary, citing accusations of disloyalty to the party.

Ologunagba revealed in a statement on Friday the suspension of Damagum and Anyanwu.

He said, “The National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP has extensively considered the series of complaints raised against the Acting National Chairman, Amb. Illiya Damagum and National Secretary, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu particularly with regard to the letter addressed by them to the Court of Appeal in Appeal No:CA/PH/307/2024 against the party’s position in the case involving the 27 former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who vacated their seats upon decamping from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The NWC condemned this anti-party activity of the Acting National Chairman and the National Secretary which is in gross violation of the provisions of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) and their Oath of Office.

“Consequently, the NWC, pursuant to Sections 57, 58 and 59 of the PDP Constitution, has suspended Amb. Illiya Damagum and Sen. Samuel Anyanwu as Acting National Chairman and National Secretary of the Party respectively and referred them to the National Disciplinary Committee for further action.

“In the meantime, the two officials are suspended from all meetings, activities and programs of the NWC pending the conclusion of an investigation by the National Disciplinary Committee.”

Meanwhile, In a statement released in the early hours of Friday, Chinwe Nnorom, the National Director of Publicity for the PDP, announced the suspension of Kamaldeen Ajibade, the National Legal Adviser, and Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary. He said, “The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) arising from its 593rd Meeting today, Thurday, October 10, 2024, has directed the National Publicity Secretary (NPS), Hon Debo Ologunagba and National Legal Adviser (NLA), Kamaldeen Adeyemi Ajibade, SAN, to step aside

“As a result, the NWC constituted a committee to be chaired by the Deputy National Chairman (South) H.E. Amb. Taofeek Arapaja, to investigate the issues raised against the officers in compliance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Party

“Following the NWC’s Decision, it directed their respective deputies (DNPS and DNLA) to assume office in acting capacity with effect from Friday, October 11, 2014, pending the conclusion of investigation by the Committee. The officers are:

“Ibrahim Abdullahi Manga, Acting National Publicity Secretary and . Okechukwu Osuoha, Acting National Legal Adviser

“The NWC enjoins all leaders, critical stakeholders, teeming members and supporters of our great Party to remain focused and committed as it pilots the day-to-day affairs of the PDP for its greater good.”

  • “Now that NNPC has said they are not the sole off-taker of Dangote petrol, it then means that the price of the product would determine where we are going to buy it. If NNPC imports the product and its price is cheaper than that of Dangote, we will buy from NNPC.” - The National Publicity Secretary of IPMAN, Ukadike Chinedu, stated that if NNPC offers a product at a lower price than Dangote's, they will choose to purchase from NNPC. He added that while marketers are open to buying from Dangote, NNPC’s announcement indicates that dealers have the flexibility to obtain their products from any source that is more cost-effective.

He added, “From what is happening now, it means that the Petroleum Industry Act is being implemented, the removal of subsidies has come to stay and the price of petrol is to be determined by the economics of demand and supply.

“If Dangote’s price is cheaper than that of NNPC, then we will buy from Dangote. So, right now, competition will set in. Remember that diesel price rose as high as N1,600/litre and Dangote came in with his own at N1,200/litre, and the importers reduced their price to N1,100/litre.

“It further dropped to about N950 and now revolves between N950 and N1,100 for both the imported ones and the ones produced locally. By the time competition sets in, the product will sell cheaper”

“Our National President, Alhaji Abubakar Maigandi, has commenced discussions with some investors who are now in the process of securing funds going by the current trend in the business.

“So, we are talking with some foreign partners because you need to understand that independent marketers are the highest buyers of diesel from Dangote refinery because we control about 80 per cent of the filling stations nationwide. So, if Dangote PMS is cheaper we will buy it, but if importation is cheaper, we will go for it.”

Regarding the pricing of Dangote petrol, Mustapha Zarma, the National Operations Controller of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, said, “We have not contacted Dangote for now, but we may contact the refinery’s sales department this week to find out the price.

“If the price is competitive enough for one to buy and get his return on investment and the required margin, then we wouldn’t mind purchasing directly from him to complement what NNPC is bringing in or what NNPC would buy from Dangote.”

“I believe that we are going to analyse the price of Dangote petrol and see the advantages of buying from Dangote viz-a-viz importation. Whichever we feel is cheaper will automatically attract everybody, especially if importation is cheaper.

“That will bring about competition and I don’t think the government will allow price monopoly. They would want a competitive market where the laws of demand and supply would determine the local price of refined petroleum products, just like diesel is right now.

“And with that, there is going to be some kind of equilibrium in the pricing and there is going to be guaranteed sustainability of supply.”
