• Senator Ali Ndume claims that a significant number of politicians in Nigeria engage in corrupt practices.

He said, “It is only in this country that somebody had no money yesterday or last week, but the following week, he buys 10 cars, buys jets and his family will celebrate with him.”

“Our major challenge in this country is corruption. Up till now, we have no law that can proactively or reactively address the issue of corruption in the country.

“If you see somebody in our system, especially in politics or government, and he is not corrupt, then he is lucky that he is God-fearing.

“Otherwise, it is only in Nigeria that you steal money and you walk freely and you are celebrated.

“If you come into an area like this, people would start lobbying you and prostrate before you even when they know that the money was stolen.”

“Up till now, there is no law on unexplained wealth Act in Nigeria and there is no Executive Order on it.”

“There is hunger in the land and up till now we have not cultivated up to five percent of our land, Nigeria is blessed with massive arable land.”

  • According to the federal government, private companies that pay employees less than N70,000 may face imprisonment.

The Federal Government has issued a serious caution to private-sector employers, emphasizing that offering wages below the newly set minimum of N70,000 could result in imprisonment.

During the 13th Annual General Meeting of the Employers Association for Private Employment Agencies of Nigeria, which took place in Ikeja, Lagos, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Kachollom Daju, was represented by John Nyamali, the Director of Employment and Wages. He stated,

“The minimum wage is now a law, and as a result, it is a punishable crime for any employer to pay less than N70,000 to any of its workers. Emphasizing the necessity of the updated wage to address current economic conditions, the government asserted that no Nigerian worker, whether in public or private employment, should earn less than this minimum.

“The private employment agencies should make it compulsory in any contract they take from their principal that their workers should not earn less than the minimum wage. The least paid worker in Nigeria should earn N70,000, and I think that should be after all deductions.

“The minimum wage is a law, and you can be jailed if you fail to implement it. The Federal Government is committed to ensuring that the least paid worker goes home with N70,000.”

  • The reason why the EFCC rejected the method by which Yahaya Bello reported to the commission.

“Upon realising that Bello came with the governor and some dignitaries, the Executive Chairman directed that no official should attend to him.

“His manner of coming to EFCC was a breach of our protocol. No Nigerian, no matter how highly placed, is expected to come for an invitation in a convoy of vehicles and with a sitting governor.

“To the EFCC, he came with grandeur which is contrary to our procedures.

“There are stages of documentation which Bello skipped because he was with the governor who has immunity.

“The EFCC also did not invite the governor. So, what was the basis for accompanying Bello to our headquarters in Abuja?

“We have not been comfortable with the roles of the governor in this case.

“After fulfilling all procedures of documentation, Bello was expected to come with his lawyer(s) and not a governor or Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs).

“We cannot be intimidated or subject our system to political pollution.

“This made the Executive Chairman of EFCC to direct that no official should attend to Bello. He must undergo due process like every invitee.

“The commission was unhappy with the pre-emptive propaganda in the media by Bello’s team which had created false impressions.

“There was a narration that the ex-governor was already in EFCC’s custody.” A source told The Nation.

He said, “We are together; nobody can put fire in Bauchi.

“We have volumes of water that will quench the fire – even my friend (Wike) that said so, it is because he is annoyed. But it is not personal.

“My friend is my friend, and my job is my job, leadership is leadership.

“This unsolicited visit by the NWC shows that in Nigeria, we have hope, and we are connected by the value and the stability of PDP for peace and stability in our party and in our country.

“Yes, none of the parties is isolated in terms of crisis here and there. Crises are there, that is why leadership is also there. That is why we have to take the bull by the horn to discuss and look at the constitution of our party PDP.

“When PDP left, nothing was done.”

  • The Department of State Services (DSS) has officially acknowledged its visit to the office of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) in Abuja.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the secret police challenged SERAP’s narrative, clarifying that unarmed members of their service were conducting a routine investigation.

The DSS, “The Department of State Services (DSS) has been inundated with multiple enquiries on its alleged unlawful invasion of SERAP offices in Abuja and Lagos.”

“This narrative is inaccurate and misleading in its intent. For the records, a team of two (2) unarmed Service operatives were lawfully detailed on routine investigation to SERAP office in Abuja, which has sadly been skewed and misinterpreted as unlawful, harassment and intimidation of SERAP officials.

“The Service further wishes to state that such official enquiries and liaison are traditional and does not in any way amount to illegality or raid.

“While it assures of indept investigation of these malicious contents, it sues for citizens’ participation in national security management.

“The DSS, therefore, urges the public to disregard these false narratives as it restates its commitment to utmost professionalism in the discharge of its core mandate.”
