  • The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, has cautioned state governments about shutting down mining operations, emphasizing that they do not possess the constitutional power to undertake such actions.

Alake emphasized that mining activities are solely under the jurisdiction of the Federal Government, and that no state has the power to intervene in any mining operations.

The ministers made their remarks in reaction to the recent statements made by state governors in Gombe and Kogi, as well as the closure of Segilola Mining Company by the Osun State Government due to issues related to taxation and operational concerns.

He said, “State governments’ ban on mining activities across the country is a point that is really sore and it is a constitution matter.

“I want to use this opportunity to tell the entire Nigerian public that no state and I repeat no state, has the authority to interfere in mining operations. No state government has that authority. It is a no-brainer and is a constitutional matter. Mining belongs exclusively in the purview of the Federal Government.

“According to the Constitution, it is in the exclusive legislative list and not in the residual or concurrent. It is in the exclusive legislative list and every item on this list belongs to the Federal Government.”

“Indiscriminate closures of mining operations by subnationals raise the risk of discouraging foreign direct investments and even worse, possible divestment by existing companies.

“Mining is on the exclusive legislative list. The Ministry of Solid Minerals should be consulted before such disruptive actions are taken.”

  • PDP lose as the PDP National Working Committee grants Wike control over Rivers.

Wike’s loyalist within the PDP National Working Committee have successfully gained approval and postponed the National Executive Committee meeting, which was initially scheduled for September 26, to October 24.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has strengthened his stance in the ongoing leadership dispute within the Peoples Democratic Party, as the National Working Committee has officially supported the congresses held in Rivers State.

“They have achieved their aim. Wike has again defeated the PDP governors as the NWC approved the Rivers and other states’ congresses. There was nothing a few NWC members who were against it could do other than allow them to have their way. As it stands, only the NEC can overturn it to suit the governors’ demands.

“The Rivers State Congresses and those of other states were approved by the NWC. A few states where issues were identified were stepped down. For example, in Kogi, the Chairman and Deputy were not approved due to anomalies.

“Only the NEC can overturn the NWC’s decision on Rivers and other states. However, the NEC meeting, originally slated for September 26, has been postponed to October 24, which may not hold on that date. As it stands, Wike has defeated the Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed-led PDP Governors Forum,” A source told the Punch.

  • STAND FIRM IN YOUR VISION: A MESSAGE TO MY FELLOW COMRADES.
By Mohammed Naziru Suleiman (Nazy Inyass)

    Dear Young Comrades,

In the wake of our recent graduation from universities, polytechnics, and other higher institutions across Kogi State and beyond, many of us are at a crossroads, trying to find our footing in the challenging terrain of our society. Some among us have chosen to join the ruling party, driven by the hope of securing opportunities or for reasons best known to them. However, the recent Supreme Court ruling has caused a stir, leading some to second-guess their decisions, deleting social media posts, and rethinking their affiliations. This confusion highlights a deeper issue which means many of us do not have a clear understanding of what we truly want.

It’s crucial to realize that life after graduation is not just about aligning ourselves with those in power. It’s about having a vision for our future and consistently working towards it, no matter the circumstances. Joining a party or being known by the ruling class should never be the ultimate goal. Instead, we must ask ourselves: WHAT DO I WANT TO ACHIEVE? WHAT IMPACT DO I WANT TO MAKE? HOW DO I WANT TO BE REMEMBERED?

I think this advice from me will be of help in our struggle to make it politically and beyond:

We should Know What we Want: Let's spend time reflecting on our values, passions, and long-term goals. This self-awareness is the foundation of a fulfilling and impactful life. Once we know what we want, everything else becomes clearer.

Let's Stand By Our Vision: When we've identified our goals, stand firm in our pursuit of them. The path may be challenging, and we may face pressure to conform to others' expectations, but remember, TRUE SUCCESS COMES FROM STAYING TRUE TO YOURSELF.

UNDERSTAND THE POWER OF CONSISTENCY: I read it somewhere that Consistency is key to achieving long-term success. It’s not about quick wins or temporary recognition but about steadily working towards our vision every day. The wise men said "Those who succeed in life are those who keep pushing forward, even when it’s difficult."

Value Long-Term Vision Over Short-Term Gains: It’s tempting to seek immediate rewards by aligning with those in power, but remember that what the wise men said "True greatness comes from building something that lasts." Let's focus on developing skills, knowledge, and relationships that will serve us in the long run, not just in the moment.

In conclusion, my dear comrades, let us not be swayed by the fleeting allure of power or recognition. Instead, let us commit to a journey of self-discovery, integrity, and unwavering determination. The future of Kogi State and our country at large depends on young leaders like us who are not afraid to dream big, stand firm, and work tirelessly to turn those dreams into reality.

Let’s strive to be the change we want to see, not just by who we associate with, but by the values we uphold and the vision we pursue.
