President Tinubu and Xi Jinping are set to sign five Memorandums of Understanding today.

President Tinubu would Participate in strategic discussions with 10 chief executives from leading Chinese companies, whose combined assets under management exceed $3 trillion. These executives represent diverse industries, including information and communication technology, oil and gas, aluminum manufacturing, port development, financial services, and satellite technology innovation.

President Tinubu will receive the distinguished honor of a 21-gun salute and will review the honor guard at the Great Hall.

Following detailed briefings from several of his ministers and other important government officials, President Bola Tinubu is set to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping today at various events, where they are expected to sign approximately five Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs).

This will signify the official start of Tinubu's visit to the People’s Republic of China, beginning with a trip to the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, where he will be welcomed by Jinping.

The President Tinubu will arrive at the Great Hall of the People, where he will be greeted with a guard of honour. He will also pay tribute to fallen heroes by laying a wreath and will receive a ceremonial 21-gun salute.

The robust bilateral agreements between the two countries aim to concentrate on crucial sectors, such as the green economy, agricultural advancement, satellite technology innovation, development and promotion of media enterprises, blue economic growth, and collaborative national planning efforts.

The meeting will serve as an important opportunity for the two leaders to engage in discussions on various shared interests, including economic collaboration, security at national, regional, and international levels, and other pressing global issues.

Today, President Tinubu is anticipated to host a roundtable dinner with a select group of chief executive officers from Chinese companies at the China World Hotel in Beijing.

As the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, President Tinubu will participate alongside fellow African leaders at the FOCAC summit. On Thursday, he is set to deliver significant remarks representing the region, focusing on issues of shared importance between China and Africa.

On the same Thursday, the president is scheduled to present an eight-minute address focusing on peace and security. He will also engage in a high-level plenary session dedicated to these issues, where he will provide insights on Nigeria’s viewpoint regarding the security challenges faced both regionally and across the continent.

Former Ogun governors join forces to oppose a Chinese company regarding presidential jets, labeling the firm a scam.

Two past governors of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun and Gbenga Daniel, have expressed their commitment to backing the Federal Government's initiative to reclaim national assets that were seized by a French court.

On Saturday, the former governors issued individual statements labeling Zhongshan a fraud, emphasizing that the company's assertions for compensation lack any merit.

In a statement he released on Saturday, Amosun emphasized that Nigeria should not heed the opinions of Zhongfu (also known as Zhongshan), as doing so would be tantamount to endorsing “an unlawful entity lacking the standing to claim our shared resources.”

“At different levels, government is a continuum and the various segments of events leading to this unfortunate situation occurred before, during and after our administration.

“Our administration assumed office on May 29, 2011. Very shortly after we took office, two different sets of Chinese companies, Messrs China Africa Investment FXE and Zhongfu International Investment FXE laid claims to management rights over the Ogun Guangdong Free Trade Zone.

“The business dispute and rivalry between the Chinese concerns soon became fierce, grounded seamless business activities and threatened public peace and safety within the zone and neighboring communities.

“There were claims and counter-claims as to who between the two was the lawful representative of the original joint venturer, Guangdong Province, China, and consequentially who had the right to manage the zone.

“Zhongfu International Investment FXE, pretending to be a concerned and genuine tenant and zone stakeholder, volunteered very damaging and destructive information about the official representatives of Guangdong Province, the Joint Venturer and lawful zone managers, China Africa Investment FXE, and subsequently requested to be appointed as interim zone managers,” he said,

The Russian Embassy in Nigeria has refuted any association with a group of demonstrators in northern Nigeria who were spotted waving Russian flags.

The Embassy issued a statement highlighting that Russia does not engage in the internal matters of other nations, including Nigeria. It clarified that the actions of the protesters do not represent any official stance or policy of the Russian government.

“The Embassy has noted the reports in Nigerian media and the circulation of videos and images in digital media depicting protesters in northern states of the country carrying Russian flags and chanting slogans to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“The Government of the Russian Federation as well as any Russian officials are not involved in these activities and do not coordinate them in any way.

“As always, we emphasize that Russia does not interfere in the domestic affairs of foreign states, including Nigeria. These intentions of some protesters to wave Russian flags are personal choices of individuals, and they do not reflect any official position or policy of the Russian Government in the issue.

“We respect Nigerian democracy and believe that peaceful demonstrations in conformity with the Nigerian law are a manifestation of democracy. However, should these events lead to any disruptions or acts of violence we strictly condemn them,” The statement said.

Despite the fun and unity we experienced, some individuals have been critical of the one-week celebration. They fail to recognize the significance of such events in fostering a sense of community and belonging among students. FYB Week was not just about fun; it was a celebration of our hard work and resilience throughout our university years. It provided us with an opportunity to reflect on our growth and look forward to the future with optimism.

The criticisms do not diminish the value of the celebration. Instead, they highlight the importance of such events in enriching the student experience. The SUG leadership and the various faculty FYB committees deserves commendation for organizing a week that allowed us to honor our past, enjoy the present, and prepare for the future. WHY IS FUEL STORED IN THE WINGS OF THE AIRCRAFT

Fuel exclusively stored in the fuselage reduces aircraft performance, crash safety, and practicality. The FAA and EASA have regulations for fuel storage, but additional factors ultimately determine where fuel is stored within aircraft designs.
Fuel stored in the wing is generally safer in crash events than fuel stored near the passenger cabin. Even for crash events where the plane doesn’t catch on fire, fuel is best kept off and away from passengers. Fire kept away from the cabin (in the wings) gives passengers time to escape to safety.

Surprisingly, where fuel is stored within an aircraft can drastically effect the structural weight of the aircraft. This is due to a structural effect called span loading.
Imagine yourself walking onto a steadily thinning sheet of ice on a lake. Your steps start to crack the ice.

Quick, lay down flat and spread your weight out before you fall through. The thin ice can support your weight as long as you keep your weight spread out.
In this silly example, the ice thickness represents the thickness of structural aluminium or carbon fibre in a wing. The more evenly distributed the weight of the fuel, engines, components, and payload is across the wing, the thinner the “ice” – the aluminium in the wing can be to support the same weight.

Less aluminium equals less structural weight – resulting in lower cost, better efficiency, and higher aircraft performance. Fuel stored in the wing helps accomplish that.
Long range aircraft, like airliners, carry a large portion of their total weight as fuel – over 12%. Most of the fuel weight is burned up in flight. For huge airliners, that can be hundreds of thousands of pounds of fuel burned in one flight.

Aircraft simultaneously need their Center of Gravity (CG) tightly controlled and to be near and slightly ahead of the aerodynamic centre of the airplane. The CG is typically located near the wing. Slight movements in the CG – inches – have drastic impacts on aircraft stability and control. As a plane burns its fuel during flight, the CG needs to stay within a small range – the entire time.

Fuel stored in the wings is perfectly suited to keep the CG within limits as the weight of the plane reduces by tons.

Where do those checked bags go? Fuel in the fuselage limits how much baggage, cargo, cabin, and internal volume is available. Fuel is the perfect candidate to be put in the wings. It’s a liquid – which occupies odd geometries and narrow passages with ease. Fuel stored in the wings expands the amount of volume open for baggage as well as for passengers.

Fuel stored in the wings enables better safety, efficiency, performance, and affordability. With so many benefits to fuel storage in the wings, it would be irresponsible to not consider it.
