The National Council for Traditional Rulers (Establishment) Bill, 2024 (SB 546) has passed for its first reading. This was introduced by Senator Simon Bako Lalong from Plateau South.
The council shall perform the following functions:
1.Designate as Advisers to Federal Government/State Government
•traditional land disputes/ownership
•Federal Government/State Government on proposed development plans for Nigeria/State on security matters as they see them from grassroot perspectives;
2.Undertake an evaluation of traditional customs and usages with advising on and enhancement on our cultural heritage;
3.Advising on religious matters;
4.Promoting/involve on issues of Arts and culture;
5.Promoting and expressing opinions on any matter which it deems
6.Be and integral part of boundary disputes as may be required of the council;
7.Assisting in the mobilization of human and material resources towards self-reliance and welfare of the people of Nigeria; and Carrying out such other functions as the President of the Federal
