Lara, who bats left-handed, brings diversity to the batting line-up; Hlubi, who bowls impact seams, provides variation; and Tumi, who bowls seams, provides variation.

The offspinner Nondumiso Shangase, the all-rounders Delmi Tucker and Eliz-Mari Marx, and the cricketer Nondumiso Shangase were the three players who were not included in the Test squad that competed against India in July. The uncapped wicketkeeper Mieke de Ridder was able to hold her position within the team.

"It will go a long way for the ladies in terms of them understanding their game and what is needed in the longer version of the game," said Mandla Mashimbyi, the head coach of the women's team.
