  1. Dual-axis trackers: These track both the east-west and north-south movement of the sun. They offer higher efficiency by maintaining a perpendicular angle between the panel surface and the sun’s rays throughout the day and seasons. 

Efficiency and Performance 

A fixed-tilt solar panel system only captures the maximum sunlight at a single point during the day. In contrast, a solar tracker can increase energy output by 20% to 35% for single-axis systems and up to 45% for dual-axis trackers. This increased efficiency translates into better returns on investment, especially in regions with high solar insolation. 

Moreover, the use of solar trackers is especially beneficial in large-scale solar farms where maximizing every kilowatt-hour is crucial to project success. 

Economic Impact 

While the initial installation cost of solar trackers is higher than fixed systems, the long-term benefits often outweigh the upfront expense. As technology has advanced, the cost of trackers has reduced, and their durability has improved, making them a feasible solution for many commercial and utility-scale applications. 

A well-implemented solar tracker system reduces the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE), making solar power more competitive with fossil fuels and other energy sources. This cost-efficiency has spurred adoption in emerging markets and large-scale installations around the world.

Beyond efficiency and cost advantages, solar trackers contribute to environmental sustainability. By increasing energy yield without expanding the physical footprint of solar farms, they help reduce land use and associated ecological impacts. Moreover, by improving output per panel, fewer panels may be required, reducing overall material consumption. 

Solar trackers are also advantageous in places where land is expensive or limited. Their ability to increase output per square meter makes them ideal for urban installations or constrained environments. 

Challenges and Considerations 

Despite the advantages, adopting solar trackers isn't without challenges. They require regular maintenance due to their mechanical nature. Dust, debris, or extreme weather can impact performance, necessitating monitoring and occasional servicing.
