Vignesh Puthur: Who is He?

From Kerala, India, 24-year-old cricket player Vignesh Puthur. Before this IPL season, he was not someone most people knew. 

Actually, he had never participated in a T20 senior-level match before**! He, therefore, lacked experience in the super-speed, thrilling T20 contests where players strike massive sixes and run lots of runs swiftly.

The MI bowling coach, Paras Mhambrey, said: "We don't merely consider a player's match count. We explore their possibilities. Vignesh can trouble even the best batters, is quite accurate, and spins the ball beautifully."

How Did Vignesh Perform in His First IPL Match?

Playing against one of the best teams, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (IPL 2025) faced the first match. Mumbai scored 155 runs; CSK's turn to pursue the mark came next.

Vignesh arrived to bowl in the second half as a Impact Player. By then CSK's main batter Ruturaj Gaikwad was performing really brilliantly and had already scored more than fifty runs.

Vignesh, however, wasn't afraid.

Mumbai Indians had bought Vignesh for INR 30 lakh after witnessing him bowling in their trials before IPL 2025. To bowl with their team MI Cape Town, they even brought him to South Africa. 

Vignesh practiced alongside well-known players including Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and even spoke with icons like Mahela Jayawardene and Kieron Pollard!

Coach Mhambrey was quite pleased. He said: "Playing your first game versus CSK never comes naturally. 

Vignesh, on the other hand, managed the situation quite brilliantly. He appeared not at all nervous."

His talent is evident even from top players like Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav who found it difficult to challenge him during practice.
