Sam’s Southern Eatery Brings a New Flavor to East Wichita

Expanding Southern Comfort in Wichita
Sam’s Southern Eatery is making waves in Wichita once again with the opening of its third location, promising a unique twist on its renowned Southern-style cuisine. Emanuel Ashiedu, a Salina-based software engineer and restaurateur, is leading this new project at 6121 E. 21st St. The site has a rich local history — originally built as a Long John Silver’s in the 1980s and later home to Clouds, a daiquiri lounge turned Mediterranean restaurant. Soon, this iconic location will offer Wichita a taste of authentic Southern comfort food.
Introducing Drive-Through Convenience
This new East Wichita location will mark an exciting first for Sam’s Southern Eatery in the city — a drive-through service. Though the building is smaller compared to its other locations, Emanuel Ashiedu sees this as an opportunity to provide faster and more efficient service. The drive-through menu will feature popular favorites, including:
-
Crispy Fried Catfish
-
Jumbo Fried Shrimp
-
Iconic Po' Boy Sandwiches
For those who choose to dine in, the full menu will be available, ensuring customers get the complete Southern experience.
A Menu Full of Southern Favorites
Founded in 2008 in Shreveport, Louisiana, Sam’s Southern Eatery has become synonymous with high-quality Southern comfort food. The diverse menu includes:
-
Fried Green Tomatoes
-
Fried Pickles
-
Crab Cakes
-
Chicken Wings
-
Fried Oysters
Every dish is crafted with fresh ingredients and authentic recipes, staying true to the flavors that have built the restaurant’s strong following.
A Rapidly Growing Presence
Emanuel Ashiedu and his brother-in-law, Charles Scott, have been pivotal in bringing Sam’s Southern Eatery to Kansas. Their journey began with the first Wichita location in early 2024, taking over the former DeFazio’s space near 29th and Amidon. Later that year, they opened a second location at 6600 W. Central. Each new branch has been warmly welcomed, with the restaurant quickly establishing itself as a go-to spot for Southern cuisine.
Future Expansion Plans
Emanuel Ashiedu has ambitious plans for further growth. He’s already eyeing a location on the south side of Wichita for another drive-through restaurant, aiming to make Sam’s Southern Eatery’s beloved flavors even more accessible. This expansion reflects the increasing demand for the restaurant’s signature dishes and commitment to quality service.
Opening Soon with Exciting Options
The East Wichita location is set to open in mid- to late March, offering both drive-through convenience and a full dine-in experience. With its exceptional flavors and customer-focused approach, Sam’s Southern Eatery is poised to become a favorite destination for Southern food lovers across Wichita.
